Domain vs Hosting - What's the difference?

In this digital era when you talk about the website, these two words come up frequently. Domain and Hosting.

So what is a domain?

Put simply domain name is the website name or address that people type into their browser's URL bar to visit a website. Eg. google.com, TSMPRO.in.

Each domain name is unique. There are varieties of TLD (top-level domain), the most popular are .com, .org. .co etc. If you are from India .in will give you a higher SEO. Also, the domain name makes it easy to access a website without the need to remember a numeric IP address.

Now let's come to the hosting part.

In simple terms, hosting is a place where you store (host) your website. All text, video, image and audio files of a blog or website are stored on the hosting server of that particular website or blog.

Time to sum up, below main key points of the domain and hosting:

1. Domain is the name. Hosting is the place.
2. The complete domain name is always unique. One domain name for one website or web page.
3. Domain and hosting both require a subscription, so it does not expire. Make sure to renew your domain before it expires.
4. You may get a free domain name, but not advisable to use it for professional purposes. It does not give a good impression.
